In many parts of the DRC, maternal and perinatal mortality rates are distressingly high. Shockingly, in Lubumbashi, a single facility was the only provider of obstetric and neonatal care for almost a million inhabitants [1]. But there is hope. We have teamed up with a local non-profit organization to help alleviate the heavy burden of these statistics.
Our mission is to take a step forward, driven by a desire to serve, inspire, and empower, while fostering hope and rebuilding the community. We understand that this mission must be grounded in the Word and Love of Christ Jesus.
We aim to achieve our mission through various services, including prenatal wellness. Our approach starts with general health principles, including vital health checks and addressing spiritual, physical, emotional, and social needs. Our center offers services such as ultrasounds/sonograms, STD screening and testing, and prenatal care using the CenteringPregnancy® concept. This approach creates a community of expecting mothers who can support and learn from each other.
The LNM Women’s Center will also provide medical care services, such as physical examinations, gynecological care, wellness assessments, and preventative education. Our Phase 1 project took place in 2021-2022, where we visited health centers in the Lubumbashi area to assess the needs on the ground. Our staff provided donated clothes and birthing kits to the women and children in these centers, meeting physical needs and opening the door to sharing the gospel.
This experience highlighted the immense need in this area and reinforced our commitment to serve the least of these to the glory of God. We have since renovated a property in the area to serve as a women’s center, and it has come along nicely. We are the result of answered prayers from all corners of the globe, and we can only serve because folks like you have to partner with us to serve this community to the glory of God.
